# DELULU

> A social discovery app for meeting people who are nearby and actually open to
> it. You make yourself Findable for a set time, other people do the same, and if
> you both Wave you can talk. There is no live map, no swiping, and no algorithm
> deciding who you should meet.

DELULU is in development and is not yet released on the App Store or Google
Play. This site is the product's home and publishes build progress generated
from the codebase itself.

## What it is not

- Not a dating app. It is for meeting people nearby, whatever that turns out to be.
- Not a map of people. No user ever sees another user's location on a map.
- Not a swiping app. There is no catalogue of strangers to browse.

## How it works

Four moving parts, and each needs both people to agree before anything happens:
you go **Findable** for a while, you choose a **Blast Radius**, either of you can
**Wave**, and a **Match** only exists once both have. A conversation opens then
and not before.

## Location and privacy

Nobody else receives your coordinates, your exact distance or your direction, and
there is no map of people anywhere in the product. Real names and photographs are
withheld until both people agree to share them. The full detail is in the privacy

## Current status

- 13 of 14 build milestones complete.
- Currently on: 14, hardening.
- 1546 automated tests passing across 77 files, last verified 2026-10-03.
- The app installs and runs on real hardware, and the whole discovery loop
  works end to end in test. Two handsets finding each other in the wild is the
  next step and part of what the fundraiser pays for.

## Policies

Vii Dohtem Ltd is the data controller for the app. Both documents say on
their face that the product is still being built and that they will change as the
rest of it is.

## The team

Simon Tregunna designs and writes the app, the API, the database and its
privacy architecture, the admin tooling and this site. The team is one person.

## Why it exists

Simon Tregunna had a CB radio in the 80s, where you talked to strangers because
you happened to be in range of each other at the same time. The internet took
that and made it global, and then the social networks made it extraordinarily
good at connecting people who already knew each other. DELULU is about the other
thing: the people you don't know yet.

It does not claim to rebuild community. It depends on community that is already
there, and it is built so that it cannot work any other way. DELULU only knows
something is happening because a trader or an organiser chose to publish it.
Inferring a gathering from where users are was considered and ruled out: it needs
location history the privacy policy forbids, and a crowd of people who have
published nothing has not asked to be discovered.

## What is deliberately not claimed

DELULU has not been released, so it has no users. There is no funding, no
partnerships, no revenue and no traction to report, and none is claimed anywhere
on the site. Build progress is generated from the repository rather than written
by hand. The privacy policy and terms say on their face that the product is still
being built and that both documents will change as it is.
